welcome back to the pakistan

aviation travel series and today i'll

take you on pakistan's most

dangerous but also most beautiful flight

an adventure

of a lifetime that i can promise this

stunning country is full of aviation

adventures

and incredible hospitable people in my

previous videos

i got to fly some great airlines such as

eo blue or

air seal and a rather disappointing

encounter

with serene air which was the only let

but today we are embarking on a new

journey

on the flag carrier itself pia

short for pakistan international

airlines

it isn't just any flight but we are

flying up north to gilgit

located in disputed baltistan on route

we will fly past the world's

highest mountains the airline invited me

to join captain for heart

at the flight deck and of course i

happily accepted the offer

so please join me on one of the world's

most spectacular flights so here i am

at the flight deck of the atr 42

it's very compact space in here so it

wasn't really designed for

uh an additional passenger i saw that i

have a jump seat but um we're already

heading for

gilgate and the view is already like

amazing and this is what it looks like

the best seat you can have on any flight

but the scenes here are just

incredible

so right now i'm here with captain fahad

uh maybe you introduce yourself a little

bit and tell you how long you've been

with pia and

uh it's been like 17 years working with

the bia

and as a first officer i have flown

boeing 737 for about four and a half

years

then i have flown airbus 310 for about

more than three years

then i was flying boeing 737's and uh

as a captain i'm flying with pia for

about more than three and a half hours

years three and a half hours that's uh

sorry three and a half years i was like

flying with

uh yeah on atr's nine actually uh this

is a vfr

flight from islamabad to gilgit and on

the way back

so the basic challenge is like uh

weather

because and most of all terrain

clearance is very important

and we have to be visual all the time

and when you look out there

you can see there's not much options to

divert or

to uh to go for an emergency landing

yeah it is a bit challenging but uh it's

uh adventurous flight otherwise yeah it

is really

enjoy every day the most beautiful views

all right so of course and even if

you're

at the flight deck there needs to be a

pakistani hospitality

we have a few bit skits and a tea and

uh probably the most amazing in-flight

entertainment i've seen in a very long

time the views are incredible

like it's really hard to to explain and

to describe

what i see right now

right so before this critical point act

we go back to islamabad and land there

and if in case we cross that critical

point then we go and by any means we

have to land at gibget airport

right so yeah i was just asking whether

there's any alternative airports to

divert in case something happens but

uh there's either going back or going

forward

from the critical point because you

don't have the fuel then

so just for that matter and in case if

you have a deep compression so there is

alternative yeah so we have to go

further yeah

so now we are just about to cross over

there

uh that is the highest one is

all right so we're slowly like turning

into the valley uh so we're descending

into it and then uh

it's like a path leading uh into gilgit

and of course uh it needs to be a quick

food review

on the road yes that's amazing and then

so i have like

four hours now on the ground and then i

head back to islamabad so let's do this

engineer some student aviation

student and then one day you will work

so guys to give you a little idea of

what gilgae is all about so a lot of

like tourists come here also

international tourists mostly like for

hiking

and uh expeditions and they go into the

mountains

exploring and seeing the belly

go go

so we just arrived at the buddha statue

yeah like back in the days gilgit was a

very important

uh stop on the silk road which was

connecting asia and uh in europe where

all the trade was happening

starting right up there you can see

that's the buddha like craved into like

the stone

so we made it up here so we got

buddha right there

we have the flack here of pakistan

and we have an amazing view

it's absolutely incredible

and breathtaking i'm not surprised

that cashmere is disputed because it's

such a beautiful place

anywhere in pakistan anywhere i go

people are so lovely

like everyone is like super nice there's

as we said you're our guest

people here are like so kind

you know exactly and they really want to

show me the very best

of pakistan crazy you know like in in

the news

like you know five or ten years ago

there was always a

terrorist here terrorist attack there

then

i think in peshawar there was a big

killing but i think

things have improved and changed so much

yeah

i think pakistan is one of the few

countries that have managed

to turn around and switch around and

turn it

into such a like safe place you know

yeah and tourists are coming back i'm

coming back

yeah i'm coming back every year this is

my second time in pakistan it's just

like incredible

how we have in the west we have such a

wrong idea

of pakistan we think it's it's bin laden

and taliban and terrorists but

it's not it's like it's good food it's

great airlines

it's beautiful like culture and nature

so it is incredible can you show me can

you show me bad people please

i guess nobody nobody we tried every

we tried all day to find some bad people

we couldn't find anything

impossible impossible

after a well-deserved tea break it was

then

time to end my little gilget adventure

which i

enjoyed so much and head back to the

airport

so two and a half hours of exploring and

now we're back at gilgit

getting ready for the flight back to

islamabad

so here i am again be traveling at the

flight deck

and the atr has like the luggage

compartment

in between the cabin and the flight deck

so here's the cabin here's all the

luggage stored

and here's the flight deck

all right checklist is complete we're

now heading for the runway

to rock it out of gilgit hopefully once

again blessed

with beautiful views

ready

so it was quite a takeoff and

it gets quite hot in those cabins here

very small

luckily there's some air conditioning

here

so this is what i call dining with a

view eh

eat that all by myself

requested flight of the year yes

I'll be flying Pakistan International

Airlines all the way to Islamabad will

have stopped over in Beijing and I am

super excited you guys really wanted me

to fly it and now here I am taking them

on their triple 7 in economy class so

it's gonna be quite an adventure and I

already love their slogan they say great

people to fly with so I'll be judging

them by exactly this tag line and we

will find out how great they are to fly

with ya fly times right in 7 hours

ish as I mentioned we'll to stopover in

Beijing so yeah let's check in and let

the adventure begin

so got my boarding pass I am going to

Islamabad literally waited an hour in

the line and I think I was he probably

the only passenger who didn't have a

minimum of ten backs to check in they

were quite surprised when they asked him

our own work ticket as I where you going

I said Afghanistan Kabul and they were

like oh my god and now we're gonna

proceed to a decayed and then I gotta

get a first glimpse of the

ia but to me it was the complete

opposite it was probably one of the most

unique flights I've ever had in my life

and in a very positive way because the

crew was outstanding it was so

kind-hearted they've really looked after

me in a way I've never experienced

before so if this is Pakistani

hospitality then I can't wait to get out

those gates and experience more of it

because it was just wonderful the cabin

of course quite outdated for dr. stated

and it's not one of the latest products

however for an aviation geek and

somebody who lost to try new airlines

and try something new this is just a

perfect airline for you and I'm really

glad that that I took P ia and and came

all the way here to Islamabad because it

was a sensational flight it exceeded my

expectations by a lot but it's it so

pleased I came all the way to Pakistan

you guys really wanted me to fly it so
